Not everything is art by default, but you can find subjects to photograph everywhere — even in the simplest things. “I am at war with the obvious,” said William Eggleston.
When I take pictures of wrestling mats, people sometimes ask, “Are you seeing something I fail to see?”
Here is where they train, struggle, sweat, and grow. They push themselves into discomfort, over and over, driven by constant repetition and obsessive curiosity, until they find a home in it.
The mat is also where they find friendships and spend countless hours. What they eat, how they sleep, how they train — it’s all connected to this place. It’s where they experience both victory and loss, and where they learn lessons that reach far beyond wrestling.
This space is more than just a surface. It’s a world of effort, identity, and growth.
